3D printing is on the verge of a revolution in production and manufacturing. Structured Polymers is a leading tech manufacturer that specializes in the production of polymer powders (the “ink”) used by almost all of the commercial and industrial 3D-Printers in the Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) process. This process was developed and patented at the University of Texas-Austin in the mid-1980s by Structured Polymers’ cofounder, Dr. Carl Deckard, and advisor, Dr. Joe Beaman. The company’s proprietary manufacturing method not only improves the properties of new and traditional SLS materials, it also produces them at lower costs. Structured Polymers was formed to help innovate an industry that has not seen material innovation in technology due to patents that have limited the competition. Those patents are expiring in Q1 2014.
